The Callisto Protocol Dev Lays Off 32 Employees

The news came less than a year after the launch of Striking Distance's debut title.

Less than a year after the launch of The Callisto Protocol, studio Striking Distance Studios announced they made a decision to lay off 32 employees.

The story started with numerous employees reporting being let go by the studio. Striking Distance then told media websites that a total of 32 employees had been let go. The studio says it is a not-insignificant percentage of the team's total headcount, which according to the developer's official page, has 144 employees in total.

"Striking Distance Studios and Krafton have implemented strategic changes that realign the studio’s priorities to better position its current and future projects for success," Krafton said. "Unfortunately, these changes have impacted 32 employees. Honoring the invaluable contributions of each departing team member with material support in the form of outplacement services and meaningful severance packages is our top priority during this difficult moment."

The team launched their first game, The Callisto Protocol, in December last year which eventually got pretty good reviews. The problem was that the game had a lot of technical issues on the launch day so it received a lot of negative feedback from players. The title still has a "mixed" rating with almost 24K user reviews.

Back in January, we reported that The Callisto Protocol has not met KRAFTON's sales expectations. It was claimed that the publisher had anticipated annual sales of 5 million copies, however, now sources say it would be hard to reach even 2 million sales by this year.
