Tom Henderson provided additional details about the game's modern time setting, the overhaul of the destruction mechanics, and more.
News about EA's next Battlefield game has been surprising fans one after another recently. Not only has its new concept art been released, but the game is also confirmed to return to modern times, and a large-scale community-driven test is set for early next year. And this is not the end. We now have some additional details to get a better idea of what to expect from the game.

Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson has revealed the accurate time span of the game’s modern setting, narrowing it down to “somewhere between 2027 and 2030.” The campaign will focus on “a massive private military group going up against NATO.” Various locations will be featured in the game, including Gibraltar and the USA. Players can expect the Battle Royale mode set in a tropical area in the USA.
According to more than half of Tom Henderson’s sources, the developers aim to bring back the authentic “Battlefield moments” to the fans and one way to achieve this goal is overhauling the game’s destruction. The game will feature “caliber-based destruction,” which means that “different calibers cause different amounts of destruction.” This echoes the job description of Ripple Effect, which states that they would like to create “the most realistic and exciting destruction effects in the industry.”

Regarding the multiplayer experience, which will be led by DICE studio with the involvement of Criterion studio, it’s said that the next Battlefield game will offer 45 weapons upon release, which is twice the size of Battlefield 2042, and ten maps for multiplayer campaigns.
Last but not least, we've been referring to the next Battlefield game without an official name yet. The team is working on naming the title over the year. They have conducted large-scale surveys asking fans to vote for the name they prefer between Battlefield or Battlefield 6.
