A Cool, Unique, and More Realistic Way to Cook a Donut in Blender

Modeling? Try deep-frying!

At this point, even if you are not a part of the 3D art community, chances are you've heard about a "Blender donut" and have at least some idea of what this iconic torus means to thousands of Digital Artists worldwide. Thanks to Andrew Price's tutorials, the donut has become the first model in the portfolios of many aspiring Blender Artists, and as such, has become so common that it rarely stands out anymore.

Every once in a while, however, experienced creators, for whom modeling the treat in question is a trivial 5-minute task, take the familiar concept and flip it on its head, presenting truly one-of-a-kind donut concepts that can make one gasp in excitement. Such is the case with 3DCG Artist Shimu, who recently cooked several delicious donuts in Blender, and by "cooked," I mean that, deep-frying them and everything.

The incredible animation unveiled by Shimu portrays a bunch of donuts getting deep-fried in a pot of boiling oil, creating a strong urge to rush to the nearest Dunkin' with its impeccable realism. Created in, no surprises here, Blender, the animation heavily relies on the software's Geometry Nodes toolset, which was used to simulate the bubbles moving in a physically accurate way. Attached below are a few behind-the-scenes showcases shared by the artist:
