Even if you are a seasoned gun nut or a Call of Duty/Battlefield veteran, chances are you might not know about the monstrosity that is HK51, an obscure variation on the G3/HK91 developed by Heckler & Koch specialist Bill Fleming and a distant relative of a much more popular MP5 submachine gun.
Despite its obscurity, HK51 stands out for its size-to-ammunition ratio, being around the same size as any other H&K SMG but chambered in 7.62mm NATO, the same cartridge used by FN SCAR-H, M60 machine gun, M134 Minigun, and a variety of sniper rifles. In layman's terms – gun small, bullet big, recoil insane, explosion spectacular.
A modder and Doom enthusiast known as Recurracy has recently shown that they're definitely in on the meme, offering a look at a digital recreation of HK51 with an impressive black-and-white manga-like appearance made for Somewhere in Hell, Recurracy's mod for Doom II inspired by the Madness Combat mainline Flash series.
Much like its original counterpart, Recurracy's HK51 features outrageous recoil, limiting its effectiveness to early-game close-quarters encounters where its lack of accuracy can be easily offset by the sheer power and speed of the 7.62 cartridge. Combined with a ridiculous camera shake, which, in case you're wondering, can be turned off, using this gun essentially becomes a lottery if you're not shooting at point-blank range, with the bullet spread covering a significant portion of your screen.
