This article showcases Godspeed's success with its diverse game catalog, the unique appeal of its leading title, Battle Legion, and how the strategic implementation of a game-branded Xsolla Web Shop enhanced it.
Godspeed Games—a division of The Collective Ace Group—was founded by Druhin Mukherjee and Ranbeer Singh Hora. It is a leading games and technology company with over several decades of experience across multiple gaming platforms. Among other games, they published the mass battle multiplayer spectator game Battle Legion worldwide and, in February 2024, enhanced the popular game’s player experience with Spellwagon.com, the first Xsolla Web Shop with global reach to launch from India.
Godspeed's success with its diverse game catalog and the unique appeal of Battle Legion (their leading title) is significantly enhanced by the strategic implementation of a web shop. Spellwagon.com is a multi-game web shop that provides exclusive content, improves player engagement, and offers a seamless, multi-title platform experience. The Godspeed team plans to grow Spellwagon.com with more games from their network.
Godspeed chose Xsolla for its web shop expertise and supportive team, ensuring a smooth integration and launch. Their advice to other developers emphasizes the importance of selecting the right partners for development and payment solutions to create a secure, engaging player experience.
Xsolla had a rare opportunity during Xsolla Forward Night in Pune, India, to interview Godspeed about their experience working together and launching Spellwagon.com with Xsolla’s Web Shop solution.
Xsolla: Tell us more about your game catalog. What genres dominate, and how do you monetize your games? What are your upcoming plans for developing your game catalog?
Godspeed: Our game catalog encompasses various game genres - from a number of casual titles, through RPG idle mass battlers to the franchise of bid simulation games that are one of a kind. These titles have been played by over 100 million players, and we are (extremely) happy to work on developing and improving games that are being enjoyed by so many people! Also when expanding our portfolio, we are focusing on high-quality concepts that will bring entertainment to our Players, rather than looking for a specific genre.
Xsolla: What about your leading title, Battle Legion? How long has it been on the market, and what makes the game unique from others in the space from a player’s perspective?
Godspeed: It’s a very well-timed question! Battle Legion will be celebrating its 4th anniversary just in a couple of weeks. It’s an idle mass battler presenting army battles in a unique landscape view. In general, the visual part of the game is appreciated, and its friendly art style has many loyal fans; however, the troops, ranks, units, and events are what lie at the heart of the game. And of course most importantly - players. The guilds they create, exchanges they have, and bonds they create over time.
Xsolla: Tell us about Battle Legion’s Web Shop. What initially motivated Godspeed to consider creating a Web Shop for this particular game? Are you satisfied with the initial results?
Godspeed: We wanted to create a space where our Players can learn more about in-game events and their upcoming schedules and have access to exclusive content. Battle Legion is a title with a busy events calendar and a loyal base of Players. It was important to us to provide them with a space that would allow them to have a rich game experience. It’s almost like it was a missing puzzle across different game touchpoints.
Xsolla: As we know, you plan to expand your Web Shop to make it multi-title and introduce new games. How did you come to this decision? What was the company's goal in the web shop portal overall?
Godspeed: As I just mentioned, it is important to us to have multiple touchpoints with our Players and a web shop is an integral part of this approach. We want it to become a companion for them, a platform where they can find more extensive information about game events, have access to exclusive content as well as be able to get to know different games from our catalogue. We are happy with the current state of our Web Shop but even more excited about the future - not only adding new titles to it but also adding more features to create an even better experience for our Players!
Xsolla: How was your players' initial reception of the Battle Legion Web Shop? What feedback have your players provided about web sales? How do they like it?
Godspeed: It’s like with almost every new thing. There is an adaptation phase where many questions are asked, then some testing time, and eventually, it evolves into adaptation, and it isn’t any different for our Players. They are curious about the new platform and want to understand its usefulness, and it’s on us to make sure that they enjoy the experience and feel comfortable in this new space. We have been constantly working on adding new types of content, more attractive offers, and from the feedback we receive, we are happy to share that it has been appreciated by the Players.
Xsolla: Tell us more about what motivates your players to make purchases on the web.
Godspeed: From what we’re hearing, they appreciate the web shop's very clean and user-friendly UI, the ease of using it across different devices, and, of course, the unique content that is available only there.
Xsolla: Why did Godspeed choose Xsolla for their Web Shop? How would you describe your experience with the Xsolla team's support during the integration and launch?
Godspeed: Some members of our Team had a chance to have worked with Xsolla in the past and we knew that we were going to work with like-minded people. Experts who are passionate about games and know best how to create an enjoyable experience for their customers. And yes, we were proven to be right about this choice, both during the integration process and the launch. Of course, the most important - support and further development of the platform are ongoing but we are sure that Xsolla will accompany us the way it did until now.
Xsolla: Based on your experience, what advice would you give to other developers considering launching their web shops?
Godspeed: Choosing the right partner would be the key, be it the development partner who helps them create such an offering (like Godspeed) or the direct-to-consumer solution partner like Xsolla. With the right foundation, the customers can have a secure and trustworthy experience, which is key to building long-term use cases for such an offering.
Xsolla and Godspeed formed a collaborative partnership that continues to propel Spellwagon.com and other Godspeed D2C projects to greater successes. With more than 18 years of game monetization experience and over 200 web shop launches, Xsolla’s experts are always happy to help game developers reach more players and improve their profit margin.
