There's "a lot cooking," but not like Valve's game.
Riot Games
With Valve not talking about its hero-based MOBA Deadlock, rumors are bound to emerge and affect other developers as well. One of them is Riot Games, the creator of League of Legends and Valorant, who was said to be pressured by its parent company Tencent to develop a title to compete with Valve's game.
However, it is not true, according to Riot Games' communications manager Joe Hixson, who called the rumor "extra fake."
"Tencent doesn't fund our dev like this... that’s not how this works… that’s not how any of this works," he said. "There's a lot cooking in R&D, but nothing like Deadlock."
It makes sense to me: Deadlock is the same MOBA we've seen before, just from a different perspective. (Well, I guess I fall asleep a little less in this shooter than in LoL or Dota 2, so perhaps there is a point in making a rival to Valve's hybrid.)
In any case, people play the game and even cheat already, so there's obviously a demand. Thankfully, the studio punishes cheaters, in a funny way, so it'll be fine.
