Until Dawn PC & PS5 Remake Gets Mixed Reviews

The number of concurrent players is far from large, and players criticize its soundtrack and a lot of bugs.

The anticipated PC and PS5 remake of a beloved horror Until Dawn, which was released on October 4, hasn't launched as successfully as expected, according to the number of players and their reviews.

Over less than a week after the release, the number of active players was only 2,607, with a little than 1,000 24-hour peak, as seen on SteamDB:

This is estimated to be Sony's worst release since the unfortunate Concord, which had less than 700 concurrent players a few days after its launch.

The reviews on Steam, however, are labeled as Mostly Positive, with 70% of players favoring the game. Metacritic reviews are Mixed or Average, with 66% positive. Players criticize the new audio compared to the original soundtrack, saying that pop tracks and seemingly royalty-free music don't correspond to the game's atmosphere. Some gamers say many bugs haven't been fixed and even call the remake "unfinished."

Also, players shared that signing in to a PSN account is required. The same issue was a reason for mixed reviews of God of War Ragnarök. However, God of War significantly surpassed the remake of Until Dawn in the number of concurrent players during the first days after the release. It launched on September 19 and reached more than 35,000 players three days after:

At the same time, gamers point out the improved graphics and camera angles. Enhanced visuals, character models, lighting, an expanded storyline, and new locations were proclaimed to be the remake's features. In August, it received an "M" ESRB rating, similar to the original 2015 game.

The new version's ending hints at its sequel. It features several post-credits scenes depicting two game's characters, telling what happened to them after the storyline's events. Notably, the fate of one of them was changed compared to the original 2015 ending. Check it out here, if you are not afraid of spoilers.
