Haenir's upcoming "medieval Dead Space" continues to take shape at a steady pace.
Despite being relatively quiet on social media in recent months, game developer Haenir Studio is still hard at work on Blight: Survival, an upcoming "medieval Dead Space" co-op action horror where you can battle horrifying monsters with an assortment of 14th-century weaponry, recently returning to Twitter to reassure fans that development is progressing smoothly and provide a detailed look at the customizable Type XIV swords featured in the game.
Forged by Haenir's Senior 3D Character Artist Léo, the in-game swords are composed of three parts – the grip, guard, and blade – all of which can be swapped and customized, giving the player an opportunity to tailor-make their weapon of choice to their liking. As mentioned by the devs, these swords are "part of our ongoing experimentation with weapon customization," suggesting that the showcased Type XIV blades won't be the only weapon one can personalize.
Additionally, the team shared an under-the-hood demo showing how their digital smith Léo modeled the swords, textured them, and applied smaller details to make them look more realistic:
Previously, Haenir announced its partnership with Behaviour Interactive, the developer of Dead by Daylight, with the goal of leveraging the studio's resources and expertise in horror games to help bring their vision for Blight: Survival to life. The announcement was met with mixed reactions, with many commenters voicing concerns over Behaviour's business practices and their handling of Dead by Daylight.
