Vampire Survivors Dev Launches a Publishing Division

Poncle plans to operate it in a way different than a "traditional publisher.”

Poncle, the developer behind the 2022 indie hit Vampire Survivors, has announced their new development of launching a publishing division, which they determine will operate in a way that’s different from a "traditional publisher.”

At the Game Republic's Pitching to Investors and Publishers event held in Liverpool earlier this week, the team shared this news while emphasizing that they didn’t “want IP.” Instead, it will assist developers with creating their own games as a label or funding source. It will also offer marketing support to indie developers to launch games that are "replayable, affordable, and fun.”

Other than financing and marketing support, the newly established publishing arm will also help with a wide range of activities in the game development pipeline, such as localization, quality control, and distribution on different platforms, and advise on game development for titles made with "sincerity, passion, and depth."

Except for explaining the new division’s visions, Poncle also discussed the things they won’t be involved in, including anything “survivor-like” or Web3 or AI-related, as well as free-to-play mobile games.

Last month, its phenomenal roguelite gothic horror landed on PlayStation nearly two years after its PC launch. It was reported that the game had sold 2.5 million copies in April 2022, only five months after its full release; its mobile version surpassed one million downloads within one week after release. However, despite this huge popularity, the developer apparently is not planning to create a sequel, at least not in the near future.
