Fans can expect a release window of 2026.
Splinter Cell fans have been experiencing ups and downs since Ubisoft announced nearly three years ago that a remake of the original 2002 game was under development. The last "up" was a hope given in April this year that some updates might be possible during June's Ubisoft Forward event, because Ubisoft Toronto has changed its Facebook header and profile images to feature the legendary night vision goggles of the protagonist, Sam Fisher. Then comes a "down" that the update never happened.
Some rumors say the project has been canceled, which, to some extent, sounds reasonable considering that the game never received another trailer after the announcement one. However, as confirmed by Insider Gaming's sources, the game is still in development and "making progress" under the codename North. What's more, players can expect a release window of 2026.
Ubisoft
Ubisoft Toronto has been leading the game's development. The studio plans to update the visuals and gameplay and update the story for modern audiences while maintaining a linear style similar to the original game rather than introducing an open world. They also chose to use the Snowdrop engine, the one used in The Division game, to develop the title.
Less than a year after the remake was announced, David Grivel, the former game director, announced his departure from Ubisoft after 11 years of tenure. We have no idea who has taken over the director role.
I'm not sure how Splinter Cell fans would feel about this update, though. On the one hand, the game could still be alive, which is a consolation for some, while on the other hand, the possible release window of the year after next year doesn't seem realistic or solid.
